The purpose of The American Legion’s National High School Oratorical Contest is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States on the part of high school students. Other objectives of the contest include the development of leadership qualities, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and the preparation for acceptance of the duties and responsibilities, the rights and privileges of American citizenship.

The State of Hawaii contest will be held on Monday, February 18, 2013 at Pagoda Hotel, Cesi Si Bon room, 1525 Rycroft Street, Honolulu, Hawaii starting at 9:00 a.m. Finalist in the Hawaii oratorical contest will receive deals and cash awards. The winner will represent Hawaii at the National Semi-Finals and Finals which will be held from April 19-21, 2013 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Quarter-Final and Semi-Final Contests will be held on April 20-21, 2013. Banquet for all contestants to follow.
